If your birthday is March 31, your zodiac sign is Aries. Aries runs from about March 20 or 21 to April 19 or 20, so March 31 sits about ten days inside the sign. Pisces, the sign before, ends around March 20, and that edge does not reach this date.
This guide covers what Aries says about a March 31 birthday, where the date falls inside the sign and which tarot card fits.
Why March 31 is Aries
The Sun enters Aries on March 19, 20 or 21, depending on the year. March 31 is well past all three, so the sign is the same every year. The people who need to check their exact birth time are the ones born on March 19 to 21, not on the 31st.
Searches for the "astrological sign for March 31" are common because the date sits in the middle of the first sign of the zodiac. Aries is the start of the astrological year, which is why its traits are often described as direct and beginning-focused. For the full month, see our April star sign guide, which covers the end of Aries as well.
What a March 31 birthday looks like in Aries
Aries is a fire sign ruled by Mars, the planet astrology links to drive, action and conflict. A March 31 Aries is usually described as quick to start, honest to the point of bluntness and happiest with a clear goal. They like to move first and adjust later.
The strength of the sign is courage. An Aries will make the call, open the conversation or try the new thing while others are still thinking about it. The weak point is patience. An Aries can drop a project when the first excitement fades, or read a slow answer as a refusal. For more on the sign's love, work and habits, read the Aries sign guide.
March 31 and the Aries decan
Each sign splits into three parts of about ten days, called decans. In the modern system, the first decan of Aries runs from about March 21 to March 30 and is ruled by Mars. The second runs from about March 31 to April 9 and is ruled by the Sun, which adds warmth and a wish to be seen. The third runs from about April 10 to April 19 and is ruled by Jupiter, which adds optimism and a taste for big plans.
March 31 is usually listed as the first day of the second decan, so it can fall on either side of the line depending on the source. If you want one answer, treat it as an early second decan date: Aries drive with a stronger sense of leadership and pride. Decan systems differ, and none of them changes your Sun sign.
Tarot card for Aries
The Emperor is the card most often paired with Aries. It stands for structure, responsibility and taking charge, which matches the sign's wish to lead. The card also asks a harder question: what do you build once the first rush is over?
The Tower is sometimes linked to Mars, the planet that rules Aries. It is about sudden change and the clearing of what no longer holds. If you want a card for your own day, draw a free tarot card. It takes under a minute and needs no account. Tarot works as a reflection tool and does not predict events.
Compatibility for a March 31 birthday
Fire and air signs usually read as the easiest match for Aries. Leo and Sagittarius share the energy, and Gemini and Aquarius share the pace of conversation. Libra sits directly opposite Aries, and the pairing tends to be a mix of attraction and friction.
Water and earth signs can work when both sides are open about speed. For a particular pair, use the zodiac compatibility guide.
Using the date well
Late March is the turn of the season in the Northern Hemisphere, and Aries is the sign tied to new starts. A simple use of the date is to pick one project you have talked about for months and write down the first small step. Aries energy works best with a short deadline and one clear next action.
See today's tarot card on the Aries horoscope page. It reads the day through a card and does not predict events.
