The Psychic StudioIf your birthday is May 31, your zodiac sign is Gemini. Gemini runs from about May 21 to June 20, so May 31 sits at the end of the first third of the sign. The Sun is in Gemini on this date every year, including leap years.
This guide covers what the sign says about a May 31 birthday, where the date falls in Gemini's decans and which tarot card fits it.
Why May 31 is always Gemini
The Sun moves from Taurus into Gemini on May 20 or 21. Only those dates can shift between signs from year to year. May 31 falls ten days after the change, so it stays Gemini in every birth year. If you were born on May 20 or 21, a birth chart settles the sign. For May 31, you can stop checking. The full range is laid out in our Gemini zodiac dates guide.
If you are looking up May in general, our May star sign guide explains why the month splits between Taurus and Gemini.
What a May 31 birthday looks like in Gemini
Gemini is an air sign ruled by Mercury, the planet astrology links to speech, curiosity and quick thinking. The sign is represented by twins, and the usual description is a person who can see two sides of almost anything.
A May 31 Gemini tends to ask a second question after everyone else has stopped. They collect people, links and half-finished projects. They are often funny, and they change the subject when a topic gets heavy. Friends describe them as easy to talk to and hard to pin down on a plan.
The usual weak point is scattered attention. A Gemini can start five things and finish two. Astrology treats this as the cost of the sign's curiosity, since the same trait that makes them quick also makes them restless.
May 31 and the Gemini decans
Western astrology splits each sign into three parts of about ten days, called decans. In the modern decan system, the first decan of Gemini runs from about May 21 to May 31 and is ruled by Mercury. The second runs from about June 1 to June 10 and brings in Venus. The third, from about June 11 to June 20, brings in Uranus.
May 31 sits at the very end of the first decan, so it reads as Gemini at its most Mercury-led, one day before Venus adds more warmth and a taste for beauty. Sources differ by a day on where the line falls, so treat the edge as soft. If you want to know how your own chart reads, a birth chart gives the exact placement.
Tarot card for Gemini
The card most often paired with Gemini is The Lovers. It is a card about choice and two sides of a decision, which matches the twin image of the sign. Despite the name, it is as much about values as romance.
A second pairing is The Magician, since Mercury rules both the sign and the card's themes of skill and communication. If you want a card for the day, draw a free tarot card. It takes under a minute and needs no account. Tarot is a reflection tool and does not predict events.
Compatibility for a May 31 birthday
Air and fire signs are the usual easy matches for Gemini. Libra and Aquarius share the love of ideas, and Aries and Leo add energy. Earth and water signs can work too, though Gemini may need to be steadier for a Taurus or more direct with a Pisces.
For a specific pair, use the zodiac compatibility guide. It lists each combination with notes on where the pair agrees and where they argue.
Using the date well
The end of May is a natural point to review the first half of the year. If your birthday is May 31, a useful habit is to list the projects you started and mark which ones you still want. Finish one, drop one on purpose, and keep one going. For a sign that likes options, choosing is the real task.
